Owning a Tesla Powerwall just got better with the Virtual Power Plant II Program by Swell Energy
Homeowners in California now can add another reason to love their Tesla Powerwall. The Virtual Power Plant II (VPP II) Program by Swell Energy is paying Southern California Electric (SCE) customers to manage Tesla Powerwalls during peak demand events and create a more resilient energy grid.
Qualifying customers who enroll will earn a $500 reward payment. By participating, you are contributing to a cleaner, stronger grid—all while retaining the energy security features of a Tesla Powerwall.
A Virtual Power Plant combines the power of hundreds or even thousands of distributed solar and energy storage systems like the one on your home to create a new kind of power plant. A Virtual Power Plant can reduce stress on the grid, limit the need for expensive new energy infrastructure, and even replace a traditional fossil fuel powered or nuclear plant.
The VPP II Program by Swell Energy is a program designed to help reduce electric use during periods of high energy demand by utilizing batteries like the Tesla Powerwall. Swell Energy is working with SCE to bring hundreds of Tesla Powerwalls together to create a Virtual Power Plant to support the grid in a clean, innovative way.
The program will operate this year only through September 30, 2022
SCE customers who own a Tesla Powerwall are eligible. Participation requires an installed smart meter. Eligible program participants must not be enrolled in any other Demand Response programs and would need to unenroll from other programs to be eligible for the VPP II Program.
